Day ??? of quarantine, and I’ve been spending a lot of time on the internet. While the majority of the time spent was online “window shopping” and watching internet miniseries, I’ve been researching a lot of organic and sustainable brands under the “beauty/ self-care” umbrella. Over the past few months, these 3 products have slowly become/ are becoming staples in my personal care collection:
*Disclaimer: These products are definitely more for my women in the audience, but I definitely have something for the men coming soon- make sure you stay on the lookout!*
1. Rael Period Products
Rael is a feminine hygiene (and then some) brand founded in 2017 by Aness An, Binna Won, and Yanghee Paik. Rael sells period products including pads, tampons, period underwear and more recently- reusable liners and pads. According to the site, their reusable products are created with breathable organic cotton that is odor diminishing, and without any harsh chemicals that could have inverse effects on your lady bits. One-use products are also made with organic cotton and without chlorine. My favorite product in the period care category would have to be the heating patches that are made with lemon balm, juniper berry, jasmine, dandelion root, and rosehip. You simply place the patches on your pelvic area, and they help you eliminate any cramping you may endure. In addition to comfortable and very effective pads and tampons, the heating patches have gotten me through many days of running errands, working, and even sleeping through rough periods. Rael also sells skincare products feminine wash and wipes, and even toothpaste- however, I have not gotten the chance to try these products yet.
Also, Rael is big on philanthropy, donating a product to a woman in need every time a post is shared on social media using the hashtag #HappyPeriodsForAll. Rael also has collaborated with Happy Period, providing women in need in the Los Angeles area with kits. Rael products are currently available for purchase in 19 countries around the world, constantly searching for global resources to assist with expansion.
*Rael products can be purchased online and in-store at Target and Walmart*
2. Burt’s Bees Sensitive Facial Cleanser
I recently started including this product in my skincare routine, after discovering it in Ella Mai’s Vogue Beauty Secrets video. According to the Burt’s Bees website, this product “uses softening Cotton Extract, which helps sustain moisture, along with a dose of soothing Aloe for the complete, gentle treatment your face craves.” They also state that the product is 99% natural, and is sulfate, paraben, phthalates, soap, and fragrance-free. I ironically purchased this product right before experiencing PMS breakouts, and it definitely helped clear them up. I not only have sensitive skin, but I also was told recently that I have dry skin and I feel that this product helps tackle both issues. I don’t experience any redness or irritation after use and I’m not sure if it’s just me but this product smells like oatmeal, which I looooove. While I’m not an esthetician and can’t tell anyone it would work for them or give them similar results to mine, it definitely has been a huge help so far.
*This cleanser can be purchased online through Burt’s Bees, or also at your local drugstore (I purchased mine at Walgreen’s).*
3. Parade Underwear
Parade is a sustainable underwear brand that I have recently discovered through Instagram. According to the Parade website, a big part of the brand’s manifesto is sustainability. Parade products are made with recycled polyamide fabric, free from any harmful chemicals, and shipped with compostable packaging. Also, 1% of brand revenue gets donated to Planned Parenthood, and Parade has collaborated with The Yellowhammer Fund, helping further provide sexual education resources. Parade has been mentioned in CNN, Teen Vogue, and InStyle, and I can attest to what these articles have said about the brand. Parade underwear is not just cute underwear- it’s sustainable and comfy! They offer the same relaxed feeling as going commando, and range from sizes XS-3XL. As Parade CEO Cami Tèllez states, “When you see us, you’re seeing people ranging from XS to 3X, because we know all women are dynamic, free-wheeling, and expressive. Welcome to the Parade!”
I hope these products work for you guys the way they’ve worked for me. Stay safe and stay healthy! ❤
